The civil war in Congo, the first battle of the New Cold War, is fuelled by superpower rivalries, ethnic hatreds and the long shadow of colonialism—but the prize is the country’s gargantuan reserves of strategic minerals like colbat. India needs to act to protect its access to these minerals, or it could find itself at the mercy of great powers, just as it was in the First Cold War.
