This started as a short about Caitlyn and Jayce…
How is this show so deep that we’re still finding NEW THINGS every day? How can a story split its focus between GREAT CHARACTER work and GREAT PLOT and GREAT THEMES and symbolism and trope subversion and revolutionary ways of writing women and sexuality and men and non-verbal communication and visual artistry and music and everything else this show has to offer? The key is in understanding how Arcane positions every story element relative to every other story element. Jinx isn’t just a standalone character, she can be compared to Vi (her sister), Ekko (another fighter), Silco (whose ideal she embodies), Sevika (Silco’s other henchwoman), Viktor (another Zaunite scientist), Jayce (another reckless hextech enthusiast), Singed (another amoral scientist)... and so on. The scenes of her killing her family are parallel in each other AND in other scenes of hextech wreaking havoc AND in other scenes that take place in those settings AND in other scenes with similar music etc. The comparisons are endless, and that’s intentional. There is a whole system at work here…
