If you’re new here, I’m a Senior Data Scientist at the company behind AdBlock (yeah, the one you probably use). In this video, I’m breaking down why the tech job market is a mess right now and what you can actually do about it.
Here’s the deal:
- Too many applicants, not enough jobs. STEM grads are flooding the market, but companies aren’t hiring like they used to. Money’s expensive, and hiring sprees are over.
- The average applicant? Kinda sucks.
- Get a degree give me a job mindset doesn't work anymore
- AI isn’t taking your job (yet). But it’s making everyone way more productive, so companies don’t need as many people. Knowledge is cheap now—ChatGPT knows everything.
So, how do you stand out?
- Fix your CV and LinkedIn. Keep it clean, one page max. No one’s reading a novel.
- Stop cold applying. Focus on referrals, recruiters, and DMs. Networking is better than spamming applications.
- Build real projects. No more Titanic datasets or to-do apps. Be creative—build something that actually interests you.
- Learn the fundamentals. Stats, engineering principles, trade-offs—this stuff doesn’t go out of style.
The tech job market isn’t what it used to be, but it’s not hopeless. Adapt, focus on what matters, and you’ll be fine.
