The fifth generation of video games was a watershed period of the industry. While we know the outcome and fates of the systems that tried to be the top dog of the era, its first couple years were a period of uncertainty. Some had difficulties from the get-go, while others crashed and burned in embarrassing fashion. This game console, released exactly 30 years ago on posting this, was a massive embarrassment on all levels, yet remains one of the most obscure consoles known. Ironic, considering the generation prior, the company behind it was popular in its own right.
This is the tale of the NEC PC-FX, the ill-fated successor to the Turbografx/PC Engine.
EDIT 12/23/24: One of my takes here aged terribly. Here's a link to the addendum video regarding the latest PC-FX fan translation.
