Welcome to part 2 of the Great Eastern Circle, a 3-part series documenting my travels between St Louis, Chicago, and Washington DC this January. 2 segments by air, and 1 by train.
Today we're checking out one of Amtrak's less talked-about routes: The Cardinal. This train runs all the way from Chicago to New York, stopping in Washington along the way. It only runs 3 days per week and has a much shorter consist than any other long distance train in Amtrak's network. Unlike the Capitol limited, which runs from Chicago to DC on a much more direct route, the Cardinal winds through the mountains of West Virginia and offers some awesome scenery. It was an interesting experience. Not Amtrak's best product offering, but I'm glad I got the experience to ride it. Hope you enjoy!
