Kohima, February 18: Tsiesema Basa village under the Northern Angami area of Kohima district celebrated its Golden Jubilee on February 18, with Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio as the chief guest.
As part of the celebration, CM Neiphiu Rio unveiled a monolith commemorating the milestone and inaugurated the Tsiesema Basa Village Rostrum. Additionally, a second monolith, recognizing Rio’s unwavering support and financial contribution towards the construction of the Tsiesema Basa village playground, was unveiled by Razoukhrielie Khro, chairman of Tsiesema Basa Village. The playground project coincides with Rio’s 50th anniversary in politics.
In his speech, Rio highlighted Tsiesema Basa village’s inclusion in the Capital Complex projects as part of Kohima’s expansion plan.
He commended the village’s pioneers for their foresight in establishing the village in 1975 and urged residents to uphold their legacy.
He further encouraged the villagers to foster unity, peaceful coexistence, and embrace modern advancements to remain connected in a rapidly changing world.
Addressing a pressing local issue, Rio expressed concern over the shortage of water sources in the Northern Angami area.
He revealed that he had recently discussed the matter with PHED officials and urged them to operationalize the water supply project, which has reportedly been completed but remains non-functional.
Rio reiterated that Nagaland’s developmental progress has been hindered by the unresolved Indo-Naga political issue.
He reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to resolving the issue, stating that all 60 legislators of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA), under an opposition-less government, have collectively passed a resolution urging the Government of India to expedite the peace process.
He assured that the legislators would meet with central leaders again to push for an early resolution, emphasizing that a settlement would pave the way for accelerated growth and progress in the state.
