As thousands of Tattoo fans will tell you, there is simply no other show like the Virginia International Tattoo! From the opening notes of the national anthem to the spine-tingling swell of the massed bagpipe bands, the Tattoo offers so many reasons to celebrate. More than 800 performers fill the Scope Arena floor, in wave after wave including bands, bagpipers, drummers, drill teams, dancers, singers and choruses.
Presented annually as part of the Virginia Arts Festival, The term Tattoo evolved from a European tradition dating back to the 17th century when Low Country innkeepers would cry “Doe den tap toe!” – “Turn off the taps!” as the fifes and drums of the local regiment signaled a return to quarters.
The Tattoo has been presented annually in Norfolk, Virginia for over 25 years.
