VN24 - 21-01-2025 (D/M/Y) - Hamm / Germany - First of all, the beer bottles were empty, they were just returnable bottles.
At around 5 p.m., a 47-year-old Macedonian man was driving his truck on Neue Bahnhofstraße. At the Wilhelmstraße crossing, he drove straight ahead in an eastbound direction, despite several warning signs indicating that the height of a bridge is not sufficient for large trucks. When he wanted to underpass the railroad bridge there, the semitrailer collided with the bridge arch. As a result of the impact, the semi-trailer became wedged and was so badly damaged, that several hundred of the more than 2,700 crates of the loaded empty bottles fell onto the road. The driver of the truck was uninjured. An emergency manager from Deutsche Bahn was called in and was able to rule out damage to the bridge's statics, so that rail traffic was not affected any further. The recovery and towing company Widliczek was called in to clear up the mess and recover the truck. During the accident investigation and the recovery of the articulated lorry, Wilhelmstraße was partially closed. The last closures were lifted at around 2 a.m.
