Band: Sd Laika
Album: That's Harikiri
Label: Tri Angle
Year: 2014
End of the month, a return to the randomiser. Today, we're looking at Indigoblur's suggestion of 'That's Harikiri' by Sd Laika. An album I had never heard of prior to diving into it for this video, but one that has left a bit of a lasting impression. An electronic album that gets right under your skin as bugs crawl all over you in a hazy drugged-out blur. Like the worst come-up of your life. Everything just feels incredibly dark and menacing, and as a result of that, it is a truly fascinating album experience.
Sd Laika was the moniker for one Peter Runge, who I discovered (after writing my thoughts on the tracks for this album), had sadly passed away in 2023. Not much is known about him or his passing, as Runge kept an incredibly low profile on the internet following the success of this one and only full-length studio album. In spite of this terrible news, there's almost a legacy to this very album that really struck a chord with so many people from the moment it was released to this very day. (Even getting a nod from Aphex Twin back in 2014). Although I didn't write about it, it is a reminder to me of the importance of music, and how these things live on long after we have gone.
