Today, on wepner farms productions, we decide it's time to pump our heifer barn pit. This is normally an easy task on our dairy farm, but today, it has turned into a very challenging winter project. After getting our hoole pump hooked up, we dip it into the underground pit. Quickly set up our load stand just to try to turn the pto on, leading to the tractor snubbing out. The pump is frozen. We pull the pump back out and work on defrosting it. In the meantime, I take care of a freash cow and baby heifer calf. Calves have been popping out like crazy latly. Big ricky grabs the excavator so we can at least start emptying the pit. Our 120 johndeere fits in the pit perfect, but it is a very slow process digging the pit out. While digging the pit out, I head over to dehorn calves. Dehoening calves is a simple process that needs to be done to ensure a safe, happy work environment for the people and the cattle. After that, I decided to try the pump again. The pump is thawed, and we pump the rest of the put with the pump.
