Romina Demetz thinks that Mary can also look "a little exhausted", after all she has "already accomplished a lot". She dabs tiny pupils into the eyes of the nativity figure. Concentration and a steady hand help the former biathlete and trained painter.
Based on a model from her brother Gerald, father Heinrich carved the head, which can be transferred to maple blocks of different sizes using a special process. Father and son are sculptors, and they also make hands and feet out of wood.
Yvonne Demetz, also a sculptor, connects everything with copper wire, determines the posture and models the body with fabric soaked in glue and plaster. The decisive factor, she says, is the folds - "so that the figures look really alive".
Which her sister Romina reinforces at the end with finely coordinated colors.
Together they make "dress-up nativity scenes" in their family business in South Tyrol, which are in demand all over the world.
