But in the end, the Wii U only managed a measly 13 and a half million units sold. That is a number so shockingly low that it almost sounds impossible. The Wii U was more than just your typical underperforming console that didn’t quite hit the mark, it was universally rejected by the mass gaming market. How could this happen from a company like Nintendo, coming off the heels of their best selling home console ever at that time? In today’s video I will attempt to answer that question by looking at the development, release, and reception to the Nintendo Wii U, while also sprinkling in my own personal experience I had with the system at the time.
