-Trip : for booking flights, hotels, trains - directly payable by credit card
-Alipay : online payment, connect with international credit card
-WeChat: for any business contacts you need for your travel, travel agents, etc. Also used for online payment called WeChatPay - connect with international credit card
-Didi: ride-hailing app - connect with credit card or AliPay or WeChatPay)
-12306: for booking trains in China - can pay using Alipay or WeChatPay
- WannaFlix : VPN to connect to banned websites/apps like Google/WhatsApp/Facebook/Instagram/NetFlix/ChatGpt, etc
- Google Translate: Offline Chinese (Simplified) to English and vice-versa downloaded in advance
- Baidu Maps : Best for Navigation but everything is in Chinese (Alternative is Apple Maps only for iPhone users)
- Meituan or Ele.me: Food delivery app (optional)
- Baidu : Chinese Google (optional)
In this video, I start my day with a late morning at my hotel at Dukezong Ancient town in Shangri-La as I wasn’t feeling very fit. My first stop was the breathtaking Songzanlin Monastery, the largest Tibetan Buddhist monastery in Yunnan province, China. The grandeur of this Tibetan Buddhist monastery left me in awe, and the views of the surrounding mountains from the top were simply stunning!
Next, I took a taxi to Xiagei Village, a peaceful Tibetan cultural village. It was fascinating to experience the quiet rural life, with traditional wooden houses, Buddha prayer wheels, and herds of animals roaming freely.
Returning to Shangri-La, I ended the day with a comforting and delicious hotpot dinner, indulging in a variety of local flavors before heading back to my hotel.
