Join us on a fun adventure as we explore not one, but two antique centers at St. Louis's Treasure Aisles in Missouri! In this video, we shop both buildings and compare the treasures we find. Which location has the coolest items, the most unique antiques, and the best deals for collectors? Come along to find out!
We start at Treasure Aisles #1, a sprawling 1950s building packed with all sorts of items. Right away, we spot premium treasures like Fornasetti coasters, a room of Mid-century Modern furniture, and an important modern art statue priced at $13,000! However, we also find some spaces where the term ‘vintage’ is a bit of a stretch, so we dig deeper to find the good stuff, eye catchers ranging from huge Red Wing jugs and quaint European enamelware to artful Raku studio pottery, Peter Max enamelware and Curtis Jere metal wall plaques. We snag great buys on Paul McCobb ‘Vendome’ designer restaurant ware, Fire-King Jadeite and Red Wing Bob White, and leave the building stoked to see what’s in pavilion #2!
But first, we take a brief detour to St. Louis’s special and unique Forest Park, home of the 1904 World’s Fair. Here we get to see where some of these neat antique souvenirs we keep finding in the mall originated, see the one original palatial hall that remains, and imagine what it was like to be where nations joined for both the Fair and the Olympic Games simultaneously!
Refreshed, we head back to Treasure Aisles #2, an art deco edifice that has much more emphasis on true antiques and vintage, much to our delight! We comb a happy display of 1930s pottery, contemplate riding off on a Cushman scooter or an 1890s carriage, and find real deals on Dorothy Thorpe glass, a Xylophone, a Florentia box and true antique barware from Europe! Our pile at the counter grows larger as we discover cool MCM Pigeon Forge candlesticks and Manhattan glass, and we enjoy the sight of a classic Wassily chair, a Poulsen-style art deco ceiling fixture, and a host of other stylish and fun collectibles from times of yore.
We close the place down, taking a big bag to the car and making note of where we’ll start our shopping the next time we set sail to the Treasure Aisles!
