The Kaiko Maru operates over a wide area, from the coast of Kochi to the Bungo Channel and the coasts of Miyazaki and Kagoshima. This time, it will be operated off the coast of Kochi for a test operation in May.
Trawl fishing uses a two-way towing method, in which the net is thrown in at the captain's signal, and two fishing boats tow the fish side by side for 2 to 3 hours while maintaining a fixed distance.
After arriving at the fishing grounds and finishing netting, the sailors take a short break. During this time, we have breakfast, and eating after work is the most enjoyable time of ship life. Delicious food prepared by the head chef will satisfy the energy of the crew.
The crew this time was a total of 10 people, 6 Japanese and 4 trainees from Indonesia. One of them is Triyana from Indonesia, who sends money to his wife and daughter (1 year old) every month. As the labor shortage continues, trawling cannot survive without them.
At the captain's signal, the net is reeled in, and in the blink of an eye, the boat is filled with a wide variety of fish. We caught sea bream, sweet sea bream, red sea bream, mejikari, monkfish, yellowtail fish, squid, etc.
