Dakshinaray, the tiger king of the Sundarbans. Dakshinaray is one of the most important flok deities of the Sundarbans region. The people of the Sundarbans worship Dakhinray as the controllers and the king of tiger. Even today, the people of the Sundarbans worship Dakshinray before going to the forest to break wood or honey . According to legend, Dakhinray was the ruler of Bhati region . Again, judging from the historical point of view – Dakshinray was the commander of Raja Pratapaditya, the king of Jessore, and a descendant of Madan Ray.
There is the temple of Baba Dakhinray in Dhapdhapi village under Baruipur police station of South 24 Parganas. Baba Dakshinray is always worshiped in this temple. Although Baba Dakshinray is always worshiped in this temple, special pujas are held on Tuesdays and Saturdays. The main festival of this temple is Jatal festival. Every year on the occasion of the birth anniversary of the 1st Magh Baba Dakshinray, Jatal festival is celebrated in this temple. The present priest of this temple is Hon`ble Sankar Kumar Chakraborty.
