Duck hunting in South Dakota usually provides the opportunity to target mallards and other big ducks in dry fields, but due to unseasonably warm weather at the start of our trip, we had to get off the beaten path in search of greenheads. Nolan had scouted this public land pothole that had a few mallards hanging out in some tiny cattail holes so we decided to take the kayaks out the next day in the hope that we'd catch them coming back in from a field throughout the morning. Much to our surprise we got to see the migration in action throughout the morning with big flocks of mallards dumping in from way up high and finishing in our decoys.
