This video shows the station English announcements used in some JR stations around Osaka.
JR group is composed of seven companies: JR Hokkaido, JR East, JR Tokai, JR West, JR Shikoku, JR Kyushu, and JR Freight. Today’s announcements are introduced by JR West.
As you may know, JR West is the pioneer of English announcement in Japan. They introduced the first one more than twenty years ago, even though no other companies considered tourists from foreign countries.
The announcement system that this video shows is introduced in 2008 into stations on the Osaka Loop Line, Yamatoji Line, and their branch lines. Its very natural pronunciation and various kinds of information to be able to announce are second to none, both Japanese and English.
*Osaka Loop Line: goes around the central of Osaka
*Yamatoji Line: connects Osaka and Nara
Please note:
- pronunciation is surely great, but its scripts may be terrible in some phrases.
- usually the English part is announced following the Japanese part. I cut Japanese parts since I wanted you to know how these English announcements are great.
- only major stations use the English guidance. In local stations, even if it uses the same announcement, English part will be cut by setting.
