The Imadegawa-Omiya area has been called “Senryogatsuji” since the Edo period (1603-1868), and was the center of Nishijin textiles where yarn wholesalers and textile merchants traded goods worth a thousand ryo a day
Visitors can see Mr. Katsuhiko Mizuno's machiya photo studio, an office using a machiya as a shared office, a kimono shop, and other machiya that are usually closed to the public and decorated with Hina dolls.
Also introduced is cafe origi, a DIY machiya renovated in Nishijin, where there are many fashionable cafes.
