RUNWAY EXTENSION & WETLANDS RELOCATION
On Thursday, January 23rd, John Gooden with the Kingfisher Trails held a public meeting on behalf of a federal Land and Water grant that the City of Kingfisher, will be applying for in order for the Kingfisher Airport to extend their runway. Roughly 18 community members were in attendance including City Commissioners, and Country Lane residents. The Kingfisher Airport has acquired the funds necessary to be able to extend their runway but upon further investigation of the airport's soil it was determined to be a wetland.

In order for the Airport to disturb the wetlands and extend their runway they have to replace it and put it elsewhere. The solution to this kerfuffle is Harry's Hole. The Army Corps of Engineers biologist has found that there is no place in Kingfisher that scored as high or would be more suitable for a wetlands than Harry's Hole, which is already owned by the city, and the land south of it which is owned by cooperating individuals. The proposed property is located east of the Union Pacific Railroad tracks behind KFC, CubeSmart Self Storage, Atwoods, United, and Dollar General. The idea is that the airport would go about their extension and all of the excavated soil and plants would be transported to Harry's Hole and would become a new wetlands for everybody to enjoy without cost to the Airport or the City.
