Just yesterday we entered the territory of Mongolia, an amazing country whose population density is considered the lowest in the world. There are only 3.45 million people living on an area of more than 1.5 million square kilometers, or just over two people per square kilometer. And today we are heading to the Altai-Tavan-Bogd National Park.
Altai-Tavan-Bogd, translated as the Five Shrines of Altai, is a huge national park in the Mongolian Altai.
Altai Tavan Bogd National Park is located in the west of the country, in the Bayan-Ulgiy aimag. It was established in 1996 with the aim of protecting the unique ecosystem and biodiversity of the Mongolian Altai, as well as preserving historical and cultural monuments.
The territory of the park covers an area of 6362 sq. km. south of the highest point of Mongolia — Kuyten uul peak or, as it was called in Soviet times, "Friendship Peak". The name symbolized the friendship of three socialist countries — the USSR, the People's Republic of China and the MNR. The peak is constantly covered with ice, and it is from here that the largest originates
