After leaving Matsue, we took the JR train to Izumo, where we will be staying for two nights near the Izumo Taisha Shrine.
This is our second visit to Izumo, a small town that is one of the key places of Shinto belief in Japan and home to the famous Izumo Taisha Shrine. There are many unique accommodations in the area, and this time we've chosen two to experience.
Tonight, we’re staying at NIPPONIA Izumo Taisha-Mae, a hotel converted from a former clinic. The hotel has two buildings with a total of six rooms, and it is just a 5-minute walk from both the Ichibata Electric Railway’s Izumo Taisha-Mae Station and the Izumo Taisha Shrine.
The hotel features a French restaurant, Cuisine OKU, which uses ingredients sourced directly from local farmers to offer modern French cuisine with a regional twist.
The company of NIPPONIA specializes in promoting regional revitalization and is known for converting traditional old houses scattered throughout Japan into comprehensive lodging facilities. The NIPPONIA Izumo Taisha-Mae features Japanese-style rooms with earthen floors and classic wooden furniture, creating a cozy, wooden space that fully captures the Taisho-era atmosphere.
This time, we booked a plan that includes breakfast. Although the price is relatively high, being able to enjoy French cuisine and traditional Japanese aesthetics in a historic townhouse makes it well worth the cost. Highly recommended for your reference!
