In this #AsktheDoc episode, I asked Dr. Nevin Markel about what are some commonly overlooked concepts in addressing shoulder pain for pitchers.
-
➡️Understanding the function (or lack thereof) of entire kinetic chain.
➡️Mobility vs stability tradeoff in the shoulder.
➡️Losing centration as a precursor to shoulder pain.
Shoulder function also takes into account the synergy of the primary movers + secondary stabilizing muscles around the joint.
The cleaner the movement above + below, and the better the synergy of the stabilizers, the best chance you have to avoid the shoulder paying the price.
