Welcome! We followed our dream of moving to a homestead in rural Scotland, where we could immerse ourselves in nature. Watch us pursue a more self-sufficient lifestyle and find a slower pace of life in the countryside — although it does’t always feel that slow, there’s so much going on!
In this first video, I take you on a tour of our 8 acres of paradise: an old farm which is now a homestead ("smallholding" for UK viewers). We'll explore its varied landscapes such as woodland, fields, meadows, a kitchen garden and an orchard.
Follow us on our journey as we continue to learn more about how to look after this place, and how to really enjoy the good life. We’ll be trying our hands at DIY projects, garden maintenance, livestock rearing, growing, eating and preserving our own food, bushcraft, campfire cooking, tree surgery…the list goes on! There’s always a job to be getting on with…and that’s kind of the point.
We’re not experts at any of this stuff, and complete beginners at most of it, so there will be many challenges, struggles, fails and lesson learnt throughout this crazy adventure.
Join me, my wife, our two kids, our chickens, and our indefatigable golden retriever Falsely as we navigate the highs and lows of learning to make the most of living here.
