Some First Trains of the Season at Carlisle:
Class 37,
Tangmere thrashes through Appleby,
new Freight flow for BNFL
31 January, 01 February 25
First trains? Filmed on 31st January and 1st February at Carlisle station.
Seeing 37405 in its new, if badly applied, vinyls for owners Swetelsky. Swetelsky have recently taken over Harry Needle Railroad Company. The loco was under contract to Colas and passed through Carlisle to retrieve a snow plough from Eastriggs and take it to Norwich.
The first run of a new contract for DRS - although only for 5 or 6 weeks - taking aggregate from Shap Summit to Drigg where it will be used to fill and seal the low level nuclear waste storage there. This was the first of a twice-daily (on weekdays) traffic flow.
The first steam charter of the season with Tangmere providing the power. It gave quite a show heading south through Appleby as it prepared to climb to Ais Gill summit on the Settle & Carlisle line.
Of course other trains beside!
