The antifreeze apparently had too much water in it as it got low in the summer and I topped it up with a bit of water, well it froze overnight during -15. We got the tractor and radiator warmed up and the frozen antifreeze melted and drained out. We refilled with new heavy duty diesel antifreeze. Once the new antifreeze was in I went out to try it out and pack some sled/ wood hauling trails. Packing trails is something I do once or twice a week to keep from getting too much fresh snow making it deep and risk getting stuck. On the way back from packing trails I also grabbed a sleigh full of logs for fire wood, Since I was going past I thought it made sense as we were also getting low on fire wood. Collecting fire wood is a part of our day twice a week or so. Starting a diesel engine in the winter is defiantly an issue, even with a fresh oil change in the winter and thinner oil, the oil is still too thick at this cold of temperatures that I usually have to fire up the generator to run the block heater to warm the oil. Today the block heater decided to not want to work so my back up plan is I light a fire under the tractor like they do with heavy machinery way back in remote places. We got the cold diesel fired up finally after about 4 hours!
