The 1955 Le Mans disaster is a pivotal part of motorsport history. From this moment on, conscious efforts were taken to start making race tracks safer- even if not everyone was completely on side and once the initial changes had been made so circuits could be seen to be doing the right thing, it ended up just being bare minimum at best.
80 people plus Pierre Levegh were killed that day, although it's thought the number could be over 100. It was a terrible accident, and this year it's the 70th anniversary, having passed on the 11th June 2025.
