In this video I’ll be taking you through the settings on your Yaesu FT-dx10, to optimize your SSB operations. If you use a microphone, you'll want to watch this!
Everyone has a different voice, uses different microphones, and are in different operating conditions and environments. There is no single set of settings that will universally be optimum for everyone. The settings I’ll be showing you are, after a lot of research and experimentation, what I’ve found work best for me.
1. Menu Settings
a. RADIO SETTING:
i. AGC FAST/MID/SLOW – Leave in default
ii. TX BPF SEL: DX/Contest = 300-2700 / Ragchew=200-2800
iii. HCUT/LCUT – Match TX BPF Selection
b. OPERATION SETTING:
See N3HNH’s excellent explanation of equalizers: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dDaqNW05seo&t=419s
i. AMC Release Time: MID
ii. PRMTRC
EQ1: FREQ: 300 / Level: -10 / BWTH: 5
EQ2: FREQ: 1200 / Level: -5 / BWTH: 5
EQ3: FREQ: 2300 / Level: +7 / BWTH: 5
iii. P PRMTRC
EQ1: FREQ: 300 / Level: 5 / BWTH: 2
EQ2: FREQ: 1300 / Level: 2 / BWTH: 2
EQ3: FREQ: 2400 / Level: 10 / BWTH: 1
c. Function Selections
i. Moni – Off with speaker / ON (35-ish) with phones
ii. MIC GAIN – Use ALC to adjust
iii. MIC EQ – Turns on the Parametric Equalizers
iv. PROC LEVEL – OFF uses Normal Parametric Equalizer/ON (Start level 50 and use ALC to determine best setting)
v. AMC Level – Used with the Processor on, the Automatic Microphone Gain limits the MIC Audie to prevent distortion even if too much audio is set too hot.
