A fully narrated watercolour tutorial on painting a colourful elephant.
I love painting elephants in watercolour as they create such wonderful areas of light and shadow, perfect for the medium.
In this tutorial I will take you through the materials and colours, as well as a deep dive into drawing out any subject; all though the principles of proportions, angle and alignment are particularly useful for subjects like wildlife, birds and figures.
After this we look at breaking the process up into two parts. This is not the only way to work in watercolours but it is a nice simple process that involves creating the highlights, lights and halftones - the light group - in stage 1. Letting this dry. Then painting the medium shadow and eventually the deep shadows and dark accents in stage 2.

- Jackson’s Raven Mop, size 0
- Winsor & Newton Quill, medium

- Pthalo Blue (Prussian)
- Quinacridone Red (Alizarin Crimson, Carmine)
- New Gamboge Yellow (Aureolin, Cad Yellow, Permanent Yellows)
- Lavender by Holbein (not necessary but I love it)
