➡️ Primus…take THREE! Les Claypool keeps getting weirder! After “Jerry Was A Race Car Driver” won our last Primus poll, I promised I’d come back and analyze “My Name Is Mud”, which took second place - you had my word! This is for SURE the weirdest Primus song I’ve heard so far, both in terms of composition and arrangement. I’ve not listened to anything from 1993’s “Pork Soda”, and I’m wondering if this is when they REALLY started getting weird. In this video I analyze a live performance from Woodstock (1994) and discuss how this simplistic song lends itself so well to the stage, the song’s clever (and dynamic) composition, and how Primus are actually just using music as a soundtrack for Les’ whacky stories. I think the crowd knows it, because they were LOCKED IN when the beat dropped. I also discuss his exaggerated slide usage (a hallmark of his style, I’m learning), how Larry LaLonde’s quirky parts fit around Les’ minimalist grooves, Les’ slap technique, his muting methods, and much more.
