In our latest episode, join Kyle and I as we continue exploring the Carrizo Plain National Monument –one of the last grassland ecosystems left in California. In this episode, we set up wildlife cameras to catch video of the elusive and nocturnal badger and Giant Kangaroo Rat.
California’s remaining grasslands harbor rare animals like badger –not often seen– and endangered species like the Giant Kangaroo rat. In California, Kangaroo Rats once helped maintain vast grasslands through their seed dispersal and soil enhancement; they were the original farmers of native grassland in the golden state! Like prairie dogs or bison on the great plains, these critters are keystone species –many other animals depend upon their presences for survival. Especially hungry badgers, kit fox, owls and more.
