Detailed video - https://youtu.be/1Iz2gaNkjbE -- The Antikythera Mechanism is an ancient Greek analog device, often considered the world’s first known computer, discovered in a shipwreck off the coast of Antikythera, Greece, in 1901. Dating back to around 150–100 BCE, this intricate mechanism consists of a complex system of bronze gears and dials, designed to predict astronomical positions, lunar and solar eclipses, and even track the ancient Olympic Games' cycle. The mechanism's design showcases advanced engineering skills far ahead of its time, demonstrating a deep understanding of celestial mechanics. Researchers believe it was used by Greek astronomers to model planetary movements based on the geocentric model of the universe. X-ray analysis has revealed over 30 meshing gears, precisely calibrated to perform calculations that weren’t replicated until the 14th-century mechanical clocks. The Antikythera Mechanism remains one of history’s greatest technological mysteries, shedding light on the scientific and mathematical advancements of the Hellenistic period.
