Thank you for watching Yukkuri Kagekidan's videos! In this episode, we're featuring the Rhaetian Railway and Swiss Federal Railways.
Continuing from our last episode, the Rhaetian Railway operates a special Historic Train during summer. This train comprises of a locomotive and carriages that are about a century old. While the locomotive often steals the show, the carriages and freight wagons linked behind it have their own fascinating and lengthy history, with some dating back to the early 20th century. Their interiors are as you'd expect, but their structures are uniquely primitive, showcasing features not found in modern vehicles.
A highlight of our visit to the Rhaetian Railway was the electric locomotive "Ge6/6", affectionately known as 'Crocodile.' What stands out are its wheels, featuring metal rods like a steam locomotive, offering a glimpse into the past when electric technology was still in its infancy. This design was a clever solution for navigating Switzerland's steep mountains and sharp curves in the early 20th century. Intriguingly, the locomotive's body appears as one unit but is actually segmented, another ingenious approach to conquering challenging curves.
In the second half of the video, we switch to Swiss Federal Railways, boarding the double-decker express train "IC2000." Stylish and offering great views, this train, complete with a dining car, is popular even in Japan. The IC2000, a symbol of Swiss rail, has been in service since the early 21st century. Capable of carrying many passengers efficiently, it's not without its quirks, including some uniquely Swiss train formations that will surely amuse you.
Additionally, the IC2000 was on the verge of joining the ranks of our 'mysterious trains' series. This is partly due to the previously featured FV Dosto, a train with its own set of complications. We'll be sharing more insights and additional information about these trains, so stay tuned for an engaging journey into the peculiarities of Swiss rail travel!
