And yet, this week, we are going to put Compression up against Limiting and to go deep to understand the differences between these two related, and yet different, Dynamic Range controllers. Compression is a subject which has returned repeatedly on this channel but to understand the relationship between the point at which Compression becomes Limiting, we need to look at some science and, particularly, Compression Ratio. And then we’ll apply our new knowledge to a Drum Bus, listening for the differences between the sound of these two processors. Are Limiters ‘only’ for the Output stage of a mix? Absolutely not.
