Mason Jar Ice Cream
Basic Recipe:
Half pint (8oz) Mason jar with lid and ring
½ cup heavy whipping cream
2 teaspoons granulated sugar
¼ teaspoon vanilla extract
Pinch of salt
For Chocolate - add ½ teaspoon of cocoa powder
Add additional ingredients such as nuts, fruit, cookies, etc as desired.
Add all ingredients into a half-pint Mason jar, secure the lid, and shake for 3-4 minutes. Do not shake for more than 4 minutes, this will cause the mixture to turn past the ice cream stage and produce more of a butter mixture. After shaking the mixture, open and check the consistency by placing a spoon into the mixture. The cream should coat the back of a spoon and not drip off. Replace the lid and place it into the freezer for 2 - 3 hours. Exact freezing time will depend upon your freezer temperature.
Once the ice cream is removed from the freezer it will be a soft serve type ice cream. This should be consumed the same day and not allowed to sit overnight. If the mixture sits overnight it will develop ice crystals. Enjoy this basic recipe and be creative with add-ins and flavors!
